Nick Wonder of the Counsilman Center Indiana Swim Team and Bloomington South High School will stay close to home for his college swimming and has verbally committed to the Indiana Hoosiers. So too will Jack Wallar from the nearby Duneland Swim Club and Chesterton High School, as both swimmers verbally committed to Ray Looze’s squad over the weekend.
The Indiana men’s team is graduating a big class after this season, but with a second-straight great recruiting class coming in this fall, they will be fighting to maintain their status as a top 10 team in the country at the NCAA Championship level.
Wonder is another great sprinter for a team that has been rebuilding that group. He has yards bests of 21.18 and 45.99 in the 50 and 100 yard freestyles.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be apart of a top 10 program in the nation!” Wonder told us via email today. “This team is on the rise and will be a contender for the NCAA title in the next upcoming years! The team is a close family and I have a lot of trust in the coaches at IU. Looking forward to next year and Go Hoosiers!”
That’s not even the only role they need him for. With James Wells and Eric Ress both out of eligibility, Indiana needs backstrokers, and he placed 3rd at last year’s Indiana High School State Championship meet in 2013.
They hit their home state hard once again when Jack Wallar also gave his verbal commitment. Wallar has yards bests of 57.20 and 2:05.44 in the 100 and 200 yard breaststrokes.
They join a class that already includes Teddy Kalp, Cody Taylor, and Ryan Gordon, as well as another Chesterton alum Blake Pieroni.
Not mentioned as a verbal commitment in the class of 2014 is Blake Peironi, out of Chesteron. He’s probably IU’s best verbal so far.
