Indiana Men, Michigan Women Lead 1st CSCAA Dual Meet Pols of 2016-2017

The Big Ten is on top of the CSCAA’s first dual meet polls of the 2016-2017 season, which were released on Tuesday.

“It is an honor to be recognized as the number one team.  I believe the last time we held this ranking was at the end of the 1973 season,” explained Coach Looze. “We realize as a program the most important ranking is the last one and will work hard to finish as highly as possible.  All our swimmers and divers are excited to have the NCAA championships at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.”

The Indiana men last weekend won both days of their matching long course and short course double-duals against the Texas Longhorns and the Florida Gators. Texas is the defending NCAA Champion team and the presumptive favors to repeat this year, while Florida placed 3rd. Both Texas and Florida were short-handed at the meet, but the early-season win was still a confidence booster for the Hoosiers. Next up for Indiana is more SEC competition with double duals against Kentucky and Tennessee before their first Big Ten meet of the season against Michigan State.

Meanwhile, the Michigan women won all 3 sessions of a uniquely-formated “triple header” meet against #3 Louisville early in October, and followed that with a win in the SMU Classic. They’ll face more tests the weekend after next when they swim a tri meet on the road against Penn State and Virginia, the latter of whom placed 5th at last year’s NCAA Championship meet. That will be Michigan’s last dual-format meet of the fall semester – with just the Big Ten/US National Team Challenge; and the Georgia Invite remaining before they depart for holiday training.

The next polls will be released November 9, 2016.

This rankning is a joke! What is this ranking based on?

The rankings are basically supposed to be an indication of who would win dual meets right now. If I recall correctly, they are also supposed to be weighted heavily on recent results.

Indiana number one yet by the time NCAAs comes through their pool they will no longer hold a single pool record in their own pool. Who will be at that same meet for Texas? A much bigger story……
