Indiana Water Polo: Hoosiers Use Efficient Start to Down SDSU

SAN DIEGO – After a tough 14-13 loss to UC San Diego in sudden victory on Saturday afternoon, the No. 16 Hoosiers (11-5) retook the pool hoping to end the weekend on the upswing.

They achieved that, and more, in a 9-6 win against No. 20 San Diego State (7-11). The win was their second over the Aztecs this season, and their sixth against a nationally ranked opponent.

Game 16 (12:00 p.m. ET): Indiana 9, San Diego State 6
Candyce Schroeder dominated the attack with four goals in the game. In IU’s last six games, Schroeder has scored more than one goal, and she totaled 11 in the Hoosiers’ three games this weekend.

Other Hoosiers on the scoring ledger were Jennifer Beadle and Karrie Kozokar with two scores each, followed by Kate Pipkin with one. For Beadle, she closes an outstanding weekend with seven goals, three assists, and three steals.

Indiana surged to an early 4-1 lead after the first eight minutes. Kozokar broke the scoreless tie midway through the quarter, and the Hoosiers followed an Aztec equalizer with scores by Beadle, Pipkin, and Schroeder.

After trading one goal apiece in the second quarter, Schroeder turned on the jets in the third. The senior recorded a hat trick in third quarter alone, including back-to-back goals in a span of 40 seconds.

Sarah Myers won three-of-four sprints in the contest, bringing her weekend total to 11-of-14.
