Indiana Women Play Host to Purdue for Senior Day Saturday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The 11th-ranked Indiana women’s swimming and diving team will play host to No. 18 Purdue Saturday, Jan. 25 in a dual meet at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington. The meet will get underway at 11 a.m. ET.

Seniors Honored

Saturday’s meet will serve as senior day with the Hoosiers honoring eight swimmers/divers/managers prior to the start of competition. Those being honored are Stephanie Armstrong, Kait Flederbach, Kate Hillman, Cassidy Kahn, Brenna MacLean, Bronwyn Pasloski, Guinevere Vanden Noort and Lindsay Vrooman.

Big Ten Honors

Freshman Gia Dalesandro earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for the third time this season after her performance in a sweep of Iowa, Illinois and Missouri last weekend. Dalesandro won the 200 IM in 2:03.80, while teaming with Brooklynn SnodgrassBronwyn Pasloski and Kait Flederbach for a winning time of 1:41.22 in the 200 medley relay. Dalesandro also led IU with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly.

Last Time Out…

Indiana posted a 170-126 win over Iowa, 193-103 win over Illinois and a 170-121 win over Missouri last weekend in Iowa City, Iowa. Lindsay Vrooman led the way with wins in the 1,000 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

The Hoosiers swept the relay events as Brooklynn Snodgrass, Bronwyn Pasloski, Gia Dalesandro and Kait Flederbach opened with a win in the 200 medley relay. Cynthia Pammett, Haley Lips, Flederbach and Snodgrass closed the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay.

Indiana went 1-2-3 in the 200 free with Vrooman, Pammett and Flederbach, while Pasloski took second in the 100 breaststroke and first in the 200 breast. Olivia Barker led a 1-2-3 Hoosier finish in the 200 fly (2:00.33), followed by Baily Pressey (2:02.22) and Brenna MacLean (2:02.25).

Flederbach took the 50 free title (23.15), while Snodgrass skipped the backstroke events to swim freestyle, taking third in the 50 free (23.75) and second in the 100 free (51.10). Pammett (1:58.84-NCAA B Cut) and Allie Day (1:59.76) went 1-2 in the 200 backstroke.

Kate Hillman was the lone diver for the IU women, placing third on the 1-meter (276.45) and fourth on the 3-meter (243.40). Dalesandro was the top Hoosier in the 100 fly, finishing second (54.79), with Barker third (56.12). Dalesandro went on to win the 200 IM in 2:03.80.

Vs. Purdue…

Indiana was a 179-121 winner in the dual meet in West Lafayette last season. IU also took a 169-130 victory in Bloomington in 2012.

Since the first dual meet meeting in 1982-83, the Hoosiers hold a 19-10 record against the Boilermakers, including victories in 11 of the last 12 meetings.
