Concordia Lutheran High School standout Seth Mandel has given his commitment to join the Greyhounds at the University of Indianapolis in the Fall of 2017. Mike McCauley, Seth’s Coach at Premier Aquatics Club of Klein (PACK,) had this to say about Seth via Twitter: “An incredible weapon underwater, Seth’s above water talents in fly, back, IM and mid-distance free make him a premium catch! The Hounds will also benefit tremendously from Seth’s unshakable character and leadership off the pool deck as well!”
Seth currently lives in the Woodlands, Texas and is a Winter Junior National qualifier. He has a long history of records and honors throughout Arizona age group and Texas high school swimming, and in 2013 was part of the youngest ever mixed-gender relay team to complete the 20 mile swim across the Catalina Channel. He has completed the Alcatraz and Golden Gate swims three times each, once completing the span of the Golden Gate all fly, and in 2012 finished 1st for all age groups at Alcatraz. Seth was the 2016-17 Team Captain and has earned 1st Team All-State honors while training under Coach Travis Subda at Concordia Lutheran, and he hopes to pursue a degree in Sports Communications and Broadcasting during his time at UIndy.
Seth told SwimSwam: “After narrowing it down and visiting my four top schools on recruiting trips, UIndy became my choice. The campus, team, coach, curriculum and area all made for an easy selection. I am looking forward to joining the “Hounds.”
Seth’s top times (SCY):
- 200 free- 1:43.20
- 500 free- 4:41.40
- 1000 free- 9:41.82
- 100 back- 52.62
- 200 back- 1:53.13
- 100 fly- 51.15
- 200 fly- 1:51.59
WHERE HE FITS IN:
Seth’s times would have had him scoring points for the Hounds in five events at the 2016 GLVC Championship. Seth would have landed in the B-final for the 1000 free, 100 fly, 100 back and 200 back, while also landing solidly in the A-final for the 200 fly. His versatility may make him very valuable to Head Coach Jason Hite’s UIndy team as they attempt to climb their way up to the top of the conference to unseat Drury, where Hite coached before taking the helm at Indianapolis.
We are very proud of Seth. He is an amazing young person with an amazing family. He will be a valuable asset to his next team… in the water and out of the water. what a guy!
