Indiana’s 5 A-Finalists in the 200 Backstroke, Led By Big Ten Champion Brooklynn Snodgrass

The Indiana Hoosiers had 5 swimmers in the A-Final of the women’s 200 backstroke at last week’s Big Ten Championship meet. Above, Barb Saball caught them and discussed where they thought their young team was headed (note that all five are freshmen or sophomores – these girls will have an incredible backstroke training group for years to come). They were lead by the impressively well-spoken freshman Brooklynn Snodgrass, the champion, who said that there was “no one she’d rather share the podium with.”

The results of the race are below.

=== A – Final ===

1 Snodgrass, Brooklyn FR Indiana 1:51.77
2 Pammett, Cynthia SO Indiana 1:53.58
3 Creran, Emily SR Ohio St 1:55.02
4 Modglin, Amy SR Penn St 1:55.18
5 Day, Allie SO Indiana 1:55.47
6 Szekeres, Dorina SO Indiana 1:55.61
7 Ress, Justine SO Indiana 1:55.83
8 Anton, Katie SO Minnesota 1:56.75

The most impressive “A” final I came across from this weekend was the 200 IM at ACC’s. Virginia took the top 4 spots, 5 of the top 6, all of them fr or soph. The slowest time among them was a 1:58.5.

Knowing Coach Ray, I can only imagine the torture the Indiana swimmers go through each day (staff, too).

And another great backstroker in NCAA on the women’s side! Next year with Missy Franklin, Elizabeth Pelton, Elizabeth Beisel, Maya DiRado, Courtney Bartholomew, Sinead Russell, Bonnie Brandon, Brooklin Snodgrass and perhaps others, it seems you will have to swim under 1.52 to make the 200 back final! It will be great to watch.
