The Bobcats of Ohio look to have locked in Indiana native Maddie Wyke for the 2015-16 season.
Wyke, a senior at Columbus North High School in Columbus, Indiana gave her verbal commitment to the Bobcats on October 14th. Wyke currently swims for Columbus North as well as the Donner Swim Club.
Wyke is strong in the butterfly, having swum a 55.94 100 fly at the Indiana High School Girls State Champs, as well as a 2:05.17 200 fly at the Indiana State Championships this year. Her gains over the past two years in her fly, as well as her backstroke, should add a nice amount of depth to the Ohio squad of head coach Rachel Komisarz-Baugh.
Event: | 100y fly | 200y fly | 100m fly | 200m fly |
2014 | 55.94 | 2:05.17 | 1:04.81 | 2:22.13 |
2013 | 58.51 | 2:07.56 | — | — |
2012 | 1:02.55 | 2:09.37 | 1:07.17 | 2:29.53 |
Not only is Wyke strong in the butterfly, but her backstroke is progressing nicely. The Bobcats could utilize this, as she has improved from a 1:10.16 100 yard backstroke 4 years ago, to a 1:03.62 last year. Another year of high school and club swimming could potentially get that 100 yard backstroke time down to 1:00 or better.
Looking at some of the Bobcats results from last season, Maddie’s 100 fly times could put her in the limelight upon her arrival at Ohio. Adding a strong backstroke to her repertoire could make her a real threat to Bobcat rivals.
