VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – “Drowning is the most neglected public health crisis in the world today. It begins with awareness and education. We have little to no water safety education in our school systems. Our hope is that our collective voice spurs a conversation to change this,” says Co-Founder, Shaun Anderson.

International Water Safety Day (#IWSD) will be celebrated throughout the world this Wednesday, May 15, 2019. The 7th annual celebration is a day to spread awareness of the ongoing drowning pandemic and to educate youth in becoming safer in and around water. Around the globe, on this single day, in school classrooms, hospitals, fitness centers, hotels, airports, as well as aquatic facilities, youth and adults will learn water safety actions that can save their lives.

For the third year in a row, the American Red Cross, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Pool Safely Campaign, and Diversity in Aquatics have combined forces to celebrate International Water Safety Day (#IWSD2019) together.

The American Red Cross has produced and distributed 1 million International Water Safety Day stickers throughout the world as part of a water safety lesson on May 15th.

Resource Guides Developed by the American Red Cross and Diversity in Aquatics includes Pool Safely Pledges
