In the above interview, 2014 Charlotte Grand Prix 400 freestyle winner Allison Schmitt talks about her 4:08.65.
She relays that she didn’t think she’d be under 4:10, and sounds as a bit of a reluctant, but accepting-of-her-fate, 400 freestyler.
In talking about her goals, Schmitt says that she’d like to get back on the National Team first-and-foremost. She took a step back from her full-blown training after the 2012 Olympics, and the result last summer was failing to place among the top 6 Americans and earn her spot on the USA Swimming National Team.
With how she’s swum in her two meets (Mesa and Charlotte) after an almost year-long layoff from competition, it doesn’t appear as though she’ll have any trouble earning her way back among the elites at this summer’s National Championship meet.
