In this interview Mainstone summarizes his race plan used to win the Australian open water swimming nationals. Rhys is known for a phenomenal training regimen in his pool workouts. Prior to winning the 10K marathon event at the nationals, he won the BHP series event in Perth where he bagged $15,000 in prize money. Rhys has been on a strong streak the past 18 months with wins in Waikiki and podium finishes at FINA events. Rhys is currently on a short break from his training and is planning to catch some surf and enjoy a short trip to Bali before resuming intense training.
Rhys Mainstone topped a fast group of open water swimmers to grab the 2013 Australian Open Water Swimming championships at Lake Macquarie. Mainstone from Western Australia has been on a rip recently winning 2013 BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series and $15,000 prize. The second spot went to Simon Huitenga also from western Australia. Bronze went to 2012 1500 free Olympian Jarrod Poort. Mainstone’s plan was to hit the race full tilt with confidence in his training he took the lead and left to the others to try and stay with his pace.
