IOC awards 2022-2024 broadcast rights in Canada to CBC/Radio-Canada

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that CBC/Radio-Canada has been awarded the exclusive broadcast rights in Canada for the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in 2022, and the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, the host city of which has yet to be elected.

IOC President Thomas Bach said: “CBC/Radio-Canada is a strong supporter of sport in Canada. We have extended our existing partnership until 2024, with CBC/Radio-Canada committing to continue its broadcast of the Olympic Games as well as year-round coverage of Olympic sports. We also have a pledge on both sides to collaborate on the new global Olympic Channel project. Finally, over 90 per cent of the revenue the IOC generates from this, and indeed all of its commercial agreements, will be distributed back to support sport at all levels around the world.”

“This extension agreement is a clear recognition of the exceptional coverage CBC/Radio-Canada provided for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games – the most watched Olympics in history”, explains Hubert T. Lacroix, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada. “We are pleased that Canadians across the country will be able to continue to experience with their public broadcaster all the excitement of the Olympic Games, wherever and however they choose to cheer on our best athletes.”

IOC member Gerardo Werthein, Delegate IOC Member for broadcast rights in the Americas, said: “We have worked with CBC/Radio-Canada for many years, and are delighted that we will build upon this foundation and extend this long-term partnership until 2024.”

CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s national public radio and television broadcaster, has acquired the rights across all broadcast platforms, including free-to-air television, subscription television, internet and mobile in all languages. The IOC has an existing agreement with CBC/Radio-Canada to broadcast the Olympic Games in 2018 and 2020, please here to find out more.
