NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College swimming & diving programs picked up a pair of wins against the visiting Providence Friars on Friday night. The men’s team completed a come-from-behind 146.5-133.5 victory by taking first in the meet’s final two events. The women’s team raced to a resounding 175-123 win.

MEN’S RECAP

  • Senior Matthew Bosse won both the 100 and 200-Backstrokes at 53.16 and 1:55.73, respectively. He was the only Gael to win two individual races.
  • Junior Matt Anderson took first in the 200-Freestyle at 1:45.51. Another freestyle winner was sophomore Conor Mullin in the 100-Freestyle with a tie of 47.72.
  • Rookie Jalen Ramjohn won the 100-Butterfly clocking in at 51.57 and fellow freshman Jackson Madonia cleared out the 200-IM at 1:58.10.
  • Iona won the 200-Freestyle Relay by over two seconds. Mullin, Bosse, rookies Aidan Holbrok and Daniel Hadary touched the wall in 1:25.77.
  • The 200-Medley went the Maroon & Gold’s way with Bosse, Madonia, Mullin and sophomore Spencer Moran taking first place by just six-tenths of a second in 1:37.03.

WOMEN’S RECAP

  • Sophomore Gabriella Kuehhas earned her first ever two-individual effort with victories in the 1000-Freestyle and 500-Freestyle. She touched the wall in 10:59.00 and 5:18.71 in those races.
  • Sophomore Kate Flynn took both the 50 and 100-Freestyle in 24.71 and 53.88, respectively.
  • Senior Jessica Schmidt took the 200-Freestyle at 1:58.46 and senior Maria DeBella honed in on the 200-Backstroke at 2:10.32.
  • Rookie Rebecca Sembrano, junior Alyssa Chain and sophomore Isabelle Pabon all won events. Sembrano earned the 500-Backstroke at 59.99; Chain captured the 100-Butterfly at 59.53 and Pabon stood tall in the 200-IM in 2:13.34.
  • Iona won the 200-Medley Relay at 1:50.13 with the quartet of Sembrano, Chain, Flynn and sophomore Kate DiRaimo.
  • The 200-Freestyle was won by freshman Katherine Lee, Chain, junior Simone Sturrup and Flynn
