The Iowa Central swim team opened the year with a sweep against Iowa Lakes here Friday night inside the Dodger pool.

The Triton men, who won every race, picked up a 136-33 dual victory and the women won, 100-30.

Double-winners for Iowa Central were Marcelo Busch Ataide (200 free/1:43.46, 500 free/4:43.87), Guillermo Cruz Zuniga (200 IM/1:53.67, 100 butterfly/49.42) and defending national champion Emile Lutzeler (50 free/22.03, 100 breaststroke/1:00.58).

For the women, Eve Berg (1000 free/11:21.70, 500 free/5:35.92) and Maria Diaz (200 free/2:01.18, 100 free/55.67) won two individual races each.

“All summer this group has been excited to get in the pool and compete,” ICCC head coach Joe Plane said. “This was a great first meet and a great chance for them to get in the water. Many of the kids posted faster times than they ever have.”

Plane also gave credit to the fans for helping support the team, saying “it was great to swim in front of so many Iowa Central supporters.”

The Tritons return to action on Oct. 19 when they host a quad meet.
