Iowa State Finalist Kylee Brown Commits to College of Saint Mary

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Kylee Brown, a senior at Lewis Central High School in Iowa, has committed to the College of Saint Mary in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

“I am SO excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and swimming career at the College of Saint Mary!! I would like to thank my family, my friends, my swim family, my coaches, my teammates & most importantly, God. Thank you to all of those I have met along this journey & to those that have helped me grow into the person and athlete I am today. It wouldn’t have been possible to get here without all of you! I also want to say a HUGE thank you to Mykenzie & Lauren for giving me this opportunity!! I am so pumped for the future!! Go Flames!!”

Brown is a dual athlete, playing basketball and swimming all four years, and playing softball for one year. New head coach Mykenzie Leehy said Brown is a “great addition to our program in the pool and classroom – and as a person.” Brown also said that Leehy is one of the reasons that she chose the College of Saint Mary, according to a press release.

“I chose CSM because the coaches went to the same high school I did, swam for the same coach and the three of us all went through the same club team,” Brown said in the press release. “The campus is close to home which allows me to still do what I love, but also be close enough to home for my family and friends to come visit and watch. The class sizes are much smaller than a university, they have a great range of undergraduate programs and the campus seems like the perfect fit for me.”

At the 2022 Iowa High School Girls’ State Swimming and Diving Championship, Brown finished 5th in the 200 free and 13th in the 100 breast. She also competed in the 100 free her junior year at states, and she finished 13th then. Most notably, in 2020, Brown finished 2nd in the 100 breast at the state meet.

As of November 2022, Brown held the school and pool records in the 100 breast.

Brown also competes for Council Bluffs Swim Club. At the 2022 Midwestern Long Course Championship in Nebraska, Brown finished 5th in the 200 free, 7th in the 200 breast, 8th in the 100 breast, and 9th in the 100 free.

Best short-course yards times:

  • 50 free: 26.31
  • 200 free: 1:54.01
  • 100 breast: 1:05.06

The College of Saint Mary is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. It competes in the Liberal Arts conference, and at the 2022 conference women’s championships, Saint Mary finished 7th out of 7 teams.

Brown will have an immediate impact for the college, and is a major commit for them. With her best times, Brown would’ve placed 2nd in the 200 free at the conference championships, and 2nd in the 100 breast. She also would’ve tied for 6th in the 50 free.

Saint Mary is a growing team, and Brown’s addition will also help at the national level. At the 2022 NAIA women’s championships, Brown would’ve finished 6th in the 200 free and 8th in the 100 breast.

Saint Mary is a small team, with just seven current swimmers, so Brown’s addition is crucial for a team that does not have much room for depth. Brown joins Michigan swimmer Naomi Huttenga so far in the 2023 recruiting class.
