The 2016 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming European Open Championships are scheduled to take place in the Madeiran capital of Funchal from May 1st through May 7th. The IPC has announced this week that fans everywhere can watch the approximately 450 swimmers representing 50 countries via an online broadcast on the event’s official website.
15-time Paralympic swimming medalist Paul Noble, along with Paralympic champion Giles Long and Paralympic gold medalist Liz Johnson will provide the English commentary accompanying the live and in-full broadcast slated to be shown on www.funchal2016.com.
“Thanks to our partnership with Channel 4, we are able to offer one of the best commentator line-ups ever seen at a Championships,” IPC director of media and communications Craig Spence said.
“Viewers will have access to an unprecedented degree of experience and knowledge from three generations of swimmers who competed for, and won, medals at the highest level of the sport.
“This, combined with the fact that the European Championships are the last major competition ahead of Rio 2016, will make for an incredibly exciting few days of competition.”
The announcement of an online broadcast comes just days after we reported that sister of soccer (football) star Cristiano Ronaldo will sing the Portuguese national anthem. Katia Aveiro is an ambassador for Funchal 2016.
