Irish Swimmer Stephen Redmond First to complete Ocean’s Seven

Irishman, Stephen Redmond has done what some have thought impossible: his completed all seven of the world’s major open water swims – The Ocean’s seven.   Steven came on shore this morning in Japan after completing the Tsugaru Channel swim.   He is the first person to successfully swim the world’s 7 most famous channel crossings: The English Channel, the Irish North Channel, the Strait of Gibraltar, the Catalina Channel, The Cook Strait in New Zealand, the Molokai Channel and Tsugaru Channel.

This feat, though it seems a bit esoteric, is similar to the first Seven Summits of climbing the world’s seven major summits.

Stephen Redmonds feat has gone almost completely unacknowledged by the general swim community. I don’t think Stephen cares – seems like he’s a humble guy motivated by more than just attention. At the end of the day his name is now in the record books for keeps. The FIRST to complete Oceans BIG 7. For those not in the know this is an epic feat (Epic meaning amazing, incredible, challenging, enduring). Think freezing cold water, sharks, jelly fish, swimming night and day to complete 7 of the worlds most challenging swims. Many world class athletes have failed to complete 1 of these swims let alone all 7. Well done Stephen.
