Irvine Novaquatics Wins 2018 Winter Jrs West Combined Team Title

2018 Speedo Winter Junior Championships – West

California’s Irvine Novaquatics won the combined team title at 2018 Speedo Winter Junior Championships – West in Austin, Texas. The girls placed 5th in their meet while the boys finished 3rd in theirs; together they scored 404 points to lead the combined standings. Irvine’s top scorers were Ayla Spitz (49 points), Ella Ristic (22 points), and Hannah Farrow (5 points), and Sean Slusiewicz (23 points), Dominic Falcon (7 points), and Ryan Abdollahi (3 points). NOVA also scored points in all 5 girls’ relays and all 5 boys’ relays.

The only other team with top-10 finishes in both the girls’ and boys’ meets was Scottsdale Aquatic Club, who finished 3rd in the combined team scores with 310 points. Coming in second overall was Bellevue Club Swim Team with 319 points.

Crow Canyon Country Club Sharks claimed the team title in the girls’ meet by 3 points over Bellevue Club Swim Team, 286 to 283. Crow Canyon is home to Zoie Hartman, whose victories in the 100 breast (with a meet record), 200 breast, 200 IM (with a meet record), and 400 IM and 8th-place finish in the 100 free added 92 points to the Sharks’ total and earned Hartman the High Point Award for the girls’ meet. Sophia Kosturos (20 points) and Shelby Suppiger (5 points) also scored individually for the Sharks. The girls won the 200/400 medley relays and finished in the top-8 of the 200/400/800 free relays.

Sierra Marlins Swim Team posted 256 points to earn the high point award among boys’ teams. Second and third went to Rose Bowl Aquatics (208) and Irvine Novaquatics (190 points), respectively. The Marlins’ top individual scorers in the boys’ meet were Colby Mefford (37 points), Ben Dillard (27 points), and Finn O’Haimhirgin, (12 points). Sierra Marlins boys won the 4×50 medley and 4×200 free; they were runners-up in the 4×100 medley and 4×100 free, and 3rd in the 4×50 free.
