16-year-old Isabel Ivey of the Gator Swim Club in Florida hung tough with two Olympians, finishing 2nd in the 200 free at Winter Nationals with a huge lifetime best of 1:43.96. That time moves her up to #4 in the 15-16 age group, putting her in some very legendary company. Ivey now stacks up with some of the best freestylers in history, and has surpassed American great Sippy Woodhead.

- Isabel Ivey, 1:43.96 (2016)

Ivey has made some astounding improvement from her personal bests today. She came in seeded with a 1:46.88, a strong time that had her ranked 67th all-time in the 15-16 age group. In prelims this morning, she took a sizable chunk off of that with a 1:45.43 that gave her the middle lane in the final tonight. Olympians Amanda Weir and Melanie Margalis got out to a slim lead at the 100, but a composed Ivey held strong and put herself back into the race in the second 100. She delivered a mighty push under the flags to touch out Weir by .02 and finish just tenths behind Margalis.
