ISL Confirms Budapest As Location For Season 2; Tokyo Could Host Finale

The International Swimming League will compete in Budapest for Season 2, with a potential Tokyo setting for the league finale.

The ISL is holding a press conference today to make major announcements for the second season of the upstart professional swimming league. Team rosters were revealed this morning, and in the press conference, the ISL said it would base its 2020 season in Budapest, Hungary.

That confirms what athletes were told earlier this summer.

The ISL is planning to run from mid-October (October 16 was the specific date given) to mid-November, switching to a compressed training camp instead of the sprawling season plan used in last year’s inaugural season. It’s not clear yet what coronavirus protocols will be in place, or if athletes will be quarantined while in Budapest in a system similar to the NBA’s ‘bubble.’

The ISL press conference also included a few more details:

  • The league finale will take place in the last week of December. Right now, Tokyo appears a likely destination, though that isn’t finalized yet.
  • The ISL plans to strike deals with top broadcasters in both the United States and in Europe. The press conference suggested ISL meets would be broadcasted live in more than 80 countries.

You can see the full rosters here.
