ISL Finale Features a Temporary Pool with Clear Acrylic Wall

The International Swimming League has not skimped on aesthetic thus far — from fashion-forward “space suit” athlete warmups to high-tech team boxes — and as the finale gets underway in just a few hours, we’ve already gotten a hint at the quality of spectacle we’re about to witness.

The temporary pool built at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas earlier this week features clear acrylic walls down one long side, allowing full visibility of what’s happening below the surface of the water. The venue has two two-meter deep pools, each 21 meters wide by 25 meters long.

Myrtha technicians built the pools in 10 days, according to the ISL. Watch a time lapse of it being built below:

According to the ISL, the acrylic walls make the pool more environmentally friendly than a typical one, emitting less than 50% of CO2 emissions compared to a traditional concrete pool. Additionally, the materials being used for this event have been used at two previous temporary events and the pools will then be permanently reinstalled at another location after the meet.

Excited for the final! All the built up and it is still almost 3 hours away. Relying on SwimSwam for best commentating of the event.

On an unrelated note, the Survivor recap may have one more chapter – Beisel and Jack Nichting (another contestant) both posted on social media (I saw it on Instagram) yesterday that they are in a relationship. So while neither of them won the million dollar, I think they are both happier this holiday season for finding each other. Best wishes to both of them.

They’ve reduced the max capacity to 3,800. But, it appears that plenty of good tickets are still available – including some that are mid-pool.

Plus hard to sell out a venue this close to the holidays

the hardest part is Friday is still a workday. In my case, plane ticket going to Vegas for one day (Saturday) make it too expensive for a day trip. Plus I don’t trust that I can get the money back while I am there. lol

Fina Championship series #1 and #2 are coming in January. That was supposedly FINA’s answer to ISL? so far no news except SS mention in the list of international meet in Jan 2020.

This year’s series will only be 2 meets. The dates were announced in October: https://staging.swimswam.com/fina-announces-2020-champions-series-with-only-2-stops-both-in-asia/
