In addition to the altered jackpot margins this season, which you can read about here, the ISL has added entirely new graphics packages for its broadcasts this year. The new graphics come after ISL hired a new production company for this season, Sky Italia, who appear to have built up the graphics packages from scratch for the new season.
One of the more notable new graphics this season is a flashing red lane which is placed over lanes who are at risk of being jackpotted. Here is an example of the effect in use from yesterday’s match:
As a reminder, the jackpot system is unique to the ISL, and was introduced last year. Think of jackpots as a winning margin, meaning that if the winner of an event beats another swimmer in the field by a certain amount of time, the winner steals that swimmer’s points. The flashing red lane serves as a warning that lane is at risk of being subject to a jackpot, and thus, at risk of losing their points for the race.
We’ve the seen jackpots be more prevalent in the ISL so far this season, especially in relays. We also saw Coleman Stewart become the first swimmer in ISL history to jackpot every other swimmer in the field, when he won the men’s 100 back in match 2.
Hmmm
Are you sure it wasn’t Nickelodeon who produced these graphics?
We gotta bring jackpots to the Olympics. Caeleb is the Gold Silver and Bronze medalist in the 50.
Actually if the jackpot margin was the same as ISL he wouldn’t have jackpotted anyone.
If we use the same jackpot times as ISL, only the following jackpotting would happen at Olympics finals:
Rylov jackpotted 8th place finisher in 200 back.
Dressel jackpotted 8th place finisher in 100 fly.
Milak jackpotted 8th place finisher in 200 fly.
Titmus jackpotted 7th & 8th place finishers in 400 free.
Schoenmaker jackpotted 8th place finisher in 200 breast.
Yufei jackpotted 8th place finisher in 200 fly.
Australia jackpotted 8th place finisher in 4×100 free relay.
GB jackpotted 8th place finisher in mixed medley relay.
All of these gimmicks to not even be shown on TV in major markets. I’ll give the ISL one more season at best, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s done after this year.
Man just let us watch the fckin race Konstantin u absolute dunce
As if I had enough reasons not to watch ISL, they keep surprising me with more BS like this
I feel like it would be easier to watch if the team graphic following the swimmers would flash or something like that, the whole lane flashing red is super annoying to watch and distracts from the actual swimming
All this extra stuff and can’t watch in the states
yes we can. I’ve not missed a match.
