INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming team defeated the Valparaiso Beacons on Saturday afternoon as they celebrated senior day. The women’s team outraced the Beacons 162-73 and the men’s beat Valpo 169-69. The Jags earned multiple first-place finishes during the meet. Seniors Jason Harary clocked a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and Caylee Hamilton earned two first-place finishes in the 50 fly and 50 free.
Harary clocked a time of 49.48 to earn his first place in the 100 fly and swam a 56.54 100-yard breaststroke to seal his second first-place finish of the day. Hamilton also earned two first-place finishes with a time of 23.35 in the 50 free and 24.65 in the 50 fly. Kevin Burke earned a team-high three first-place finishes with a 22.39 time in the 50 back, 20.47 time in the 50 free and 21.93 in the 50 fly.
Emmaleigh Zietlow recorded a time of 57.36 to win first place in the 100 back and clocked a 1:52.57 time in her first-place finish in the 200 free. Logan Kelly took first place in the 100 free (45.93) and the 50 breast (24.86). Avery Brooks placed first in the 50 breast (30.26) and the 100 free (53.08). Other first-place finishes came from Nico Gallego (200 free, 1:41.73), Lauren Thompson (50 back, 26.19), Zoe Hendrickx (100 fly, 57.74), Dane Charleston (100 back, 50.91), Jenna Nethercutt (100 breast, 1:07.01), Emma Theobald (500 free, 5:14.56) and Luke Dibley (500 free, 4:39.36).
IUPUI also swept the 200 medley relays with a first-place finish in the women’s 200 made up of Thompson, Brooks, Lilly Brandt and Hamilton (1:45.55). The Jags men’s 200 medley relay team, made up of Charleston, Harary, Wes Wickens and Nick Cavanah, took the first-place finish with a time of 1:32.78.
The men’s and women’s swimming team will now prepare for the Horizon League Championships on Feb. 16-19 while the diving team will be back in action on Thursday (Jan. 27) as they take on the UIndy Greyhounds at 2:00 PM.

The Valpo men’s and women’s swimming teams turned around after competing Friday evening and returned to the pool Saturday afternoon in a dual meet at IUPUI. Four different Beacons posted second-place finishes in individual events to lead the squad’s effort Saturday.
How It Happened
- Senior Dominic May (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) led the Valpo effort on the men’s side. May touched the wall second in the 100 free, posting a time of 47.72, after earlier placing third in the 50 free with a time of 21.39.
- Freshman Alex Koetter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) registered a third-place finish as well on Saturday, completing the 500 free in 4:57.20.
- Less than 24 hours after earning two event wins apiece, freshmen Haley Hume (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) and Bridget Pollard (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) each had a second-place showing against the Jaguars Saturday. Hume’s runner-up finish came in the 200 IM (2:21.87), while Pollard placed second in the 500 free (5:24.76).
- Sophomore Kenzie Conn (Celina, Ohio/Celina) picked up two top-threes on Saturday. Conn touched the wall second in the 100 back (1:00.83) and came home third in the 50 back (28.06).
- Freshman Dot Chislett (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) recorded a third-place finish as well, covering the 100 fly in 1:02.13.
- IUPUI won the team scoring on the women’s side, 162-73, and on the men’s side, 169-69.
Next Up
Valpo returns to action next Saturday morning at Eastern Illinois, as both squads take to the pool starting at 11:30 a.m. The meet is the last for the Valpo women prior to the MVC Championships.
