Jack Collins from the Badger Swim Club in New York gave his verbal commitment to swim for Indiana University for the 2015-2016 season, adding another number to the Indiana distance group.
Collins’ best swims are his distance-freestyles, specifically the 1500 and 1650. This July Collins cracked the 16-minute barrier in the 1500 free with a 15:59.53 which displayed close to a minute of improvement in the race in under eight months.
Collins kicked off 2014 with a personal best time in the 1500 at the NJS Bac Cerave Invitational, touching the wall in 16:54.56. He went a long while without bettering that mark, swimming a 17:03.79 at the end of May.
Come the end of June and Collins went to Canada to compete at the 2014 Coupe Du Quebec Canada Cup where he dropped almost 30 seconds to swim a 16:26.68. Collins clearly wasn’t done there and in just under a month dropped the 27.15 to set his personal best of 15:59.53.
That swim gave him a Winter Nationals cut.
The gigantic drop just points fingers to some great results in the future for Collins if he can continue making massive drops like this towards his collegiate career. It’s obvious that the Hoosiers coaching staff see great promise in the distance freestyler who’s been improving greatly in all events across the board.
In yards, Collins swims a 15:55.89 1650 which he swam in February of 2014. Considering his massive time-drop from January to August, Collins can most likely better that yards time.
With the recent addition of some very talented distance swimmers such as Teddy Kalp from Canada, the Indiana training group appears to be one that will be very competitive for Collins.
Mitch, it’s “Indiana University.”
