Sometimes you get bored of swimming the same event over and over. Thank god I dropped the 200 fly.

I went to re-check the results of the medley relay at Worlds 2017 in Budapest, nearly 4 years ago. Great Britain finished second in 3.28.95 behind Usa (3.27.91) with 3 quarter of the quartet that has swum at these Euro Champs. The lone difference was Walker-Hebborn instead of Greenbank and the final time was a little slower (3.28.95 vs 3.28.59) mainly due to a faster lead-off from Greenbank towards that of Walker-Hebborn (who remained two tenths over the 54″). Scott, already in that 2017 relay, swam a great 47.04. Those Worlds2017 were that of the best Guy ever in the 100 fly (50.67 in semifinal) and of the explosion of Dressel in the 100 fly. While I understand your reaction to this comment. It is a lost in translation reaction.

The term proper racing against proper people is by no means a knock on the people he is training with. He is saying that he has not spent the last 5 years training to race his team mates at Bath.

He has been training to compete with the people at the European championship and the Olympic games and the common wealth games. The international elite of swimming. These are the people he has been focused on being able to beat. This is a venue and the people all the other racing and the hours in the pool have been focused on.
