Heading into the meet James Magnussen hoped that everyone would go back to focusing on the pool and not on the controversy that has happened out of the pool since the Olympics, “I think it’s really important for us as a swimming community, and absolutely myself in particular, to focus on the swimming now and put the results on the board and let people focus on the positives,” Magnussen told Fox News before the meet began.
He went a long way in doing that this evening winning the 100 freestyle in a time of 47.53, which is the fastest time done in the world this year, beating Vladimir Morozov’s 47.93 by four tenths of a second.

The time also ties his silver medaling win time in London.

“To do that time is pretty good,” Magnussen told News.com.au.
“It was good tonight to do it under a bit of pressure from the other guys. That’s a good indication of where I am at.”
“I think I could have gone quicker but I wasn’t quite feeling 100 per cent tonight. I still have a bit of work to do to get it back up to where it was at the Olympics.”
I sincerely believe with the depleted 400 field– Park, Biedermann, pvk, Agnel… Everyone who’s been under 3:45 in the last two years (!!!), had FraserHolmes swam the 400, we would’ve seen another swim in the vicinity of what McKeon did, which give Australia a strong chance of getting on the podium again– perhaps twice.
The only others who may appear to have a shot (and I dont think they’re sub 344 swimmers yet) are Dwyer, Hao and Cochrane.

I think he believes Matt McLean has a chance to be on the podium next summer.
Too bad Fraser-Holmes DQed in 400.
From his 200 free, 400 IM, by Harrison who said that Fraser-Holmes is faster than he in training (both is trained by the famous Dennis Cotterel), and by Fraser-Holmes’ own admission that he had focused his training on 400, he could have swum 3:43 or faster.

14:51 is the same that Paltrinieri went at 17..
And to note, Sun wore a suit, but the long distance swimmers weren’t known to benefit much from them.

Tell that to Zhang Lin too. His 7.32.12 in the 800 free at the 2009 world championships are still in my mind and especially his crazy stupid ridiculous last 50 in 25.99.
Yeah, and Lin kind of disappeared after the suits were gone. That 800 WR is such a mind boggling swim, I don’t see it EVER going down. It’s equivalent to the 7:20 3000 running WR held by Daniel Komen.
Sun Yang has 7:38:57 from 2011..
It would not be impossible to break that WR.. hard.. but not impossible (Hoping to see the first under 15:30 and under 3:40 to be true)
Zhang Lin popped a 344 in 2010 at Chinese Nationals, so its not entirely fair to label him as a suit swimmer. Once you adjusted for suits, he was probably the quickest swimmer in the world over 400-800 in the 2008-2009 period.
Yes john26 but admit that 3.44 in the 400 free isn’t in the same crazy category than 7.32 in the 800 free.
Right, no doubt. In his own right, Zhang was probably a 3:42 high swimmer in Rome. A belief that I believe is credible because he has been 3:44 (One of only 2 in 2010, so it was a huge deal). Obviously, no one is going to come close to 7:32, unless Sun Yang trains exclusively to break it. But I think ZHang Lin might’ve been faster than Hackett’s then-textile record even without the suit. Who knows, but thats my speculation.
3.44 in the 400 free isn’t in the same crazy category as 7.32 in the 800 free. Better without English errors.
Sun went a 14:48 when he was 17 – but still, hats off to the upcoming Aussie youngsters. Some very very legit times. Fraser Holmes going a 4:10 in the 400IM was also impressive!
Sun 14:48 was with 16.. he only turned 17 at December 2008.. on OG he was still 16…

Freestyle madness continues in Australia on the last day of competition.
Another double for the Campbell sisters in the 50 free final with Cate in 24.27 ahead of Bronte in 24.59. 4 girls under 25! Shayna Jack, 14, 5th in 25.03!!!!
And two 17-year-old swimmers under 15 minutes in the 1500 free! Jordan Harrison in 14.51.02 ahead of Mack Horton in 14.59.66.
That’s a big shame Horton didn’t get under the A standard, I was rooting for him. Nonetheless, an incredible meet by him. A 14:59.66 and a 3:45.71 ain’t too shabby for a 17-year-old … He’s young, so will keep on improving. He just needs to use this as motivation.
Harrison is only 17 and has swam 3.43.71 and now a 14.51.02 . Has there ever been a faster 17-year-old (may I say even faster than the great Sun Yang?)? Also, I read Harrison is the first Aussie to break 15 mins in the 1500 in 5 YEARS? I find that so hard to believe. But the future of distance swimming looks bright along side there sprinting corps!
What Olympic scandal? It looks like the Aussie’s are putting that far behind … I’ve been thoroughly impressed by their men and women swimmers thus far.
Yes but almost all come from freestyle. Except a few people like Emily Seebohm in the 100 back, Alicia Coutts in the 100 fly and the 200 IM and Christian Sprenger in the 50 and 100 breast. But freestyle will bring many medals for Australia. It’s a little like here in France.

Hahaha, yes Ian Thorpe: 3:40:59 and Perkins has the 17yr.old record in the 1500 at 14:50:58. Harrison was close! It’s awesome!
