James Todd Wilson Verbally Commits to Navy Midshipmen

James Todd Wilson has elected to swim for the United States Naval Academy, announcing his verbal commitment to the Midshipmen on Twitter last week.

“The Naval Academy is a school I’ve been interested in for a good part of my life, being just under 2 hours from my house myself and my family took trips there as a child. The opportunities presented at the Academy are amazing along with the team’s atmosphere. Contributors to my decision include my Club Coach Casey Coble, both Navy Coaches: Bill Roberts and Mark Liscinsky, my friends, and my family, all of whom have been very helpful and supportive.”

Wilson attends Conestoga Valley Senior High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and swims with Lancaster Aquatic Club. He is primarily a backstroker/butterflier and his best times include:

  SCY LCM
100 back 48.77 58.01
200 back 1:49.13 2:08.68
100 fly 48.62 56.51
200 fly 1:50.09 2:11.86

Wilson will be a valuable asset for the Midshipmen. His 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 fly times swum in prelims would have qualified him through to the respective “A” finals, while his 200 back would have been on the A/B-final bubble. Wilson is just a bit stronger in the 100s than the 200s so he could also be a factor on Navy’s medley relays. With a 46.6 flat-start 100 free, Wilson will need to improve by about 2 seconds to contribute to the Navy 400 free relay, but he should already be a significant point-earner for the Midshipmen in his first season at Annapolis.

Geez this kid really struggles with 200s…. hopefully something that’ll be easily worked out in college with some good endurance training, would love to see him as a 200 flyer!!

Just wondering...
