Future Stanford Cardinal Janet Hu broke former Stanford Cardinal Elaine Breeden‘s National Age Group record in what’s been a devastating night for the record books at NCSA Junior Nationals.
Hu went 1:52.92 to clip .07 off of Breeden’s 2007 mark, the second Stanford commit to break a NAG tonight. (Simone Manuel took care of the 100 free mark earlier in the meet).
The 18-year-old Hu blazed to a big front half, going 53.67 on the way out. Her splits dropped off some from there, but the damage was already done as Hu went 59.25 in the second 100 to put another NCAP-er in the national record books.
Hu’s is one of five NAGs to go down on night 2 of NCSAs, joining Manuel, Alexis Wenger, Carsten Vissering and Michael Andrew.
Unfortunately I think that Simone Manuel will get the 50 free record from her but it is pretty bizarre for someone to hold the 50 free NAG and the 200 Fly NAG. (Michael Andrew also holds these two records but I think he might have been the first. That would make Janet the second, first female. Natalie might have done it but think she may have been older. She has held the American Records in both at one time or another.)

Her races in short course are always a big show.
Impressive record.
The 100 fly later in the week should be pretty good as well.
I don’t know which events she will swim at Stanford but her coach will have many options.
