The final night in Sheffield still brought plenty of heat to the pool at the 2016 ASA Winter Nationals meet. Kicking off the 4th and final day was a pair of Sheffield-based swimmers who stormed to the wall in a 1-2 women’s 400m IM finish. Rosie Rudin took the gold ahead of teammate Amber Keegan, with each earning respective times of 4:33.91 and 4:38.61. For Rudin, her sub-4:34 outing marks a new personal best.
Of her performance tonight, Rudin commented, “I’m really happy with the gold medal. I’ve not had a PB in a while in the IM, so it’s nice to finally be back where I should be. It’s really nice to compete in Sheffield. We have good facilities here and with the team behind you, if you’re having a bad day, they just pick you right back up. ”
Sheffield also took the women’s 200m freestyle victory with Eleanor Faulkner setting herself apart from the field. Registering a new personal best of 1:55.63, Faulkner held off Plymouth Leander’s Jessica Jackson and Edinburgh’s Kathryn Greenslade who touched in 1:56.08 and 1:56.35 to finish 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
“I’m shocked to be honest, I’ve not had a PB on 200 Free in a while. This whole week has been a bit of a shock to be honest, but I put the training in and it’s obviously paid off,” stated Faulkner post-race.
Calum Jarvis of Bath University closed out his meet by completing a trifecta of titles. Having already won the men’s 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle earlier in the meet, Jarvis notched a swift 1:44.96, a time which represents the 4th-fastest of his career. His outing tonight was also quick enough to beat out Sheffield’s Max Litchfield, the man who had earlier nabbed gold medals in the 200m and 400m IM.
Are you sure you’re fine?
Interesting- second year of this event r but not really as fast as the Scottish short course which is a long established short course competition . Edinburgh is great!
Duncan was fantastic to watch at Scottish SC Nat’s – You must be incredibly proud.
Interesting also that many of the juniors over in Ontario would have won gold at this event, too – I suspect most are doing it to tick boxes rather than taking it seriously.
