Jasmine Mau Breaks National Independent High School Record in Hawaii

Cal commit Jasmine Mau finished her high school career with a bang on Saturday at the 2014 Hawaii National High School Championships.

En route to a team state title for Punahou, Mau swam a 52.23 in the 100 yard fly. That broke not only her State Record of 52.78 in the 100 yard fly, but it also took down Kathleen Hersey’s old National Independent High School Record in the event. Back in 2008, the future-Olympian Hersey swam a 52.44 for Marist High School in Georgia.

The overall National High School Record set by Jasmine Tosky at 51.92 in 2011 still stands. That’s also Mau’s best time (she’s been 52.77 in yards), and would have been good enough to get her into the B-Final at last year’s NCAA Championships.

Good news for Cal next year.

The overall national high school record should fall next weekend in Virginia if Janet Hu swims the 100 fly.
