Jayhawk women triumphant in Kansas Classic meet at home

The Kansas women won their home invite handily, beating out top competitors Nebraska and Iowa State. Three meet records went down over the course of the weekend, and several more narrowly survived.

Kansas was led by senior Morgan Sharp, who broke the meet record in the 500 free, going 4:53.75 to win the event. She also contributed the top split on the Jayhawks’ 800 free relay, which broke a meet record of its own with a time of 7:30.24.

Nebraska got some notable swims from sprinter Taryn Collura, who was just off meet records in both the 50 and the 100. She went 23.60 in the 50, just .3 off the meet record, and 51.18 in the 100, that swim just a tenth off the meet mark. She won both events, including the 100 in a close finish.

The Huskers also got a big swim from Natalie Morris, who won the 200 fly in 2:03.33. That’s another new Kansas Classic record by a half-second.

Other notable swims: Iowa State’s Imelda Wistey won the 100 breast, going 1:03.01. She also won the 200 breast. Chelsie Miller took home two wins for Kansas, in the 200 IM (2:04.37) and 400 IM (4:20.43). And Iowa State’s Amanda Paulson was just off the meet record in the 100 free despite finishing second overall – she went 51.50.
