The second day of the 2023 Speedo Sectionals in College Station featured the 100 free, 200 breast, 200 back, and 500 free. Texas Ford Aquatics post-grad Morgan Scott won the women’s 100 free tonight in 48.18, clearing the field by a wide margin. It was a decent swim for the former University of Alabama standout, whose personal best of a 46.78 from last year’s NCAA Championships.
Longhorn Aquatics 17-year-old Jillian Cox had a huge swim in the 100 free, finishing second with a 49.35. Notably, Cox’s prelims swim of 49.43 marked her first time under 50 seconds in the event.
Cox would go on to win the women’s 500 free in 4:37.85 at the end of the session, touching first by ten seconds. It was another massive swim for Cox, taking over four seconds off her previous best of 4:42.34, which had stood since the 2021 Winter Juniors West meet in December of 2021. She was spectacular in her pacing, splitting 2:18.18 on the first 250 yards of the race, then coming home in 2:19.67 on the back half of the race. She was particularly good at the end, coming home in a sizzling 26.87 on the final 50.
Metroplex Aquatics 16-year-old Camille Murray won the women’s 200 back in 1:54.80, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of the runner-up. That performance marks a huge personal best for Murray, who came into the meet with a top time of 1:57.08. Notably, her previous best was set at Winter Juniors West this past December, meaning Murray has improved significantly in the past three months.
Texas Ford Aquatics post-grad Miranda Tucker won the women’s 200 breast convincingly, swimming a 2:09.36.
Dads Club Swim Team 19-year-old Cade Duncan won the men’s 100 free in 42.90. The Northwestern recruit clipped his personal best of 42.94 with the swim. He just touched out Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics 17-year-old Ethan Harrington, who finished second in 43.01. The Stanford recruit has a personal best of 42.92.
Lubbock Swim Clun 17-year-old Jones Lambert won the men’s 500 free tonight in 4:20.06, touching first by well over a second. A Utah recruit, Lambert took more than a second off his previous best of 4:21.34 with his swim tonight. South Texas Aquatics 17-year-old Connor Fry clocked a huge personal best for second tonight, finishing in 4:21.53. His personal best coming into the night was a 4:25.72, which he swam this past December. Fry is signed to South Carolina for this upcoming fall.
First Colony Swim Team’s Logan Brown, 18, won the men’s 200 breast in 1:54.02. A Texas A&M recruit, Brown took a full second off his previous best of 1:55.11 with the performance tonight. There was a strong field behind Brown, with Metroplex’s Watson Nguyen (1:56.24) and Longhorn Aquatics’ Andrew Zou (1:56.59) both posting lifetime bests tonight. Notably, 41-year-old James Fike came in fourth tonight, swimming a 1:56.61.
Texas Ford Aquatics 17-year-old Jacob Wimberly won the men’s 200 back by a huge margin tonight, swimming a 1:43.82. Another Texas A&M recruit, Wimberly blew his previous best in the event away. Coming into the day, Wimberley’s top mark was a 1:46.26, which he swam at a Sectionals meet last March.
