Job Summary: Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Swim Coach will supervise and coach assigned swim groups. This role requires a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and coaching excellence, while adhering to Swim Torrance and USA Swimming guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coach swim group(s) as assigned by the Head Coach
  • Assist lead coaches in facilitating effective and engaging swim practices
  • Report any behavioral issues with athletes to the lead coach immediately.
  • Maintain up-to-date certifications and qualifications required for coaching
  • Participate in coaching education sessions and attend monthly coaches’ meetings.
  • Attend Mock Meets and Racing Series Meets as required
  • Represent Swim Torrance with the utmost professionalism at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Board of Directors.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all swimmers during practice and competitions.
  • Adhere strictly to Safe Sport and MAAPP guidelines as established by the US Center for Safe Sport, USA Swimming, and Swim Torrance.
  • Notify the Head Coach at least one week in advance of any planned absences, unless due to emergency or illness.
  • Secure coverage for practices in the event of absence.
  • Dress appropriately in team attire (team T-shirt or polo, jacket, and shorts/pants without holes).
  • Complete and submit a bi-weekly timesheet for payroll processing.
  • Participate in an annual written employee evaluation at the end of the long course season.
  • Qualifications:
  • Previous coaching experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and safe environment for all participants.
