Team Size: ~175 Swimmers, Ages 6-18

 

The Role:

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced Head Swim Coach to lead our team to continued success. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of competitive swimming and have a proven track record of developing young swimmers into confident, disciplined athletes. This role is more than just coaching; it’s about inspiring a generation of swimmers to achieve their personal bests while upholding the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Development: Offer visionary leadership for both the team and coaching staff, crafting and executing comprehensive training programs that cater to swimmers at varying skill levels.
  • Coaching Excellence: Instruct in advanced swimming techniques to enhance swimmers’ form, efficiency, and speed, employing a range of coaching styles to meet the diverse needs of participants.
  • Sportsmanship: Promote values of fair play, respect for teammates and competitors, and love for the sport. Encourage a team environment where all members support and uplift each other.
  • Competition Preparation: Methodically prepare the team for peak performance, both individually and collectively, at competitions by organizing training schedules, determining meet lineups, and crafting tailored training strategies informed by detailed competition analysis to enhance each swimmer’s performance.
  • Team Culture: Build a positive and inclusive culture that celebrates hard work and acknowledges achievements, embodying the principles of dedication and effort as a role model for athletes.
  • Operational Efficiency: Ensure that practices and meets are conducted punctually and efficiently.
  • Strategic Planning: Participate in setting the meet schedule, conducting tryouts, and other preparatory activities as part of early season responsibilities.
  • Technical Proficiency: Generate team lineups prior to each meet using the Hytek Meet manager computer system, import results into Team Manager, and disseminate them to participants. Familiarity with Hytek Meet Manager, Team Manager, and Colorado Timing System is advantageous.
  • Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with the WSA Board of Directors, parents, and league officials ensuring all stakeholders are informed and engaged.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a swim coach, with a strong track record of developing competitive swimmers.
  • Excellent understanding of swim techniques and training methodologies.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire athletes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and coaching staff.
  • Flexibility to work practice sessions on Wednesday evenings, Saturday afternoons, and Sunday afternoons, with Sundays dedicated to meets during the season.

 

Season Duration: 

Mid-October through the first weekend of March, with preparatory responsibilities beginning in August and September (e.g., setting the meet schedule, conducting tryouts).
