Assistant Swim Coach

Job Summary

Assists the Head Coach with all aspects of a sports program. Recruits athletes, mentors athletes, fosters athletic, emotional, and academic group of student athletes. Oversees sports equipment, practice plans and schedules, skill development, designs coaching strategies. Oversees public and media relations. Coordinates team travel and schedule. Adheres to all rules and regulations.

Essential Functions

Coaching- carries out coaching assignments during daily workouts, practices, and scheduled events. Enforces team rules. Maintains statistics. Monitors each assigned student athlete’s academic and athletic performance and employs specific coaching modalities to meet needs.

Recruiting – recruits student-athletes; assists with departmental recruiting activities and carries out scouting assignments.

Physical conditioning- consults with trainers and team physicians in monitoring the well-being of student-athletes.

Other duties as assigned by the head coach. Including but not limited to adhering to policies established by the NCAA, ACC, and the University.

Academic monitoring- assists in monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes.

Physical Effort

Instructing and demonstrating physical skills while coaching; extensive travel via car, air, and bus. Must stand for long periods of time at meets and at practices. May have to lift or transport equipment.

Job Summary:
The role of the Head Coach is to develop a regionally strong competitive swim team with 120-160 swimmers while assuring growth of the team competitively and financially. The Head Coach will support the other coaches and interact often with UVAC management staff to assure coordination of swim lane usage, communication about team events, maintenance and cleaning issues, swim meet logistics, and team successes. The Head Coach must be able to promote the team through lectures, press releases and social media.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Set up squad guidelines. Plan and schedule all UVAC swim team programs
  2. Set up workouts and provide technical direction to all assistant coaches
  3. Provide written evaluations of coaches and programs at the end of short and long course seasons
  4. Work with coaches to make recommendations on professional development and training (seminars, workshops, conventions)
  5. Plan, schedule and conduct practices
  6. Assist and participate in non-swim team UVAC activities, open houses, fund-raisers and special events unless excused by the ED

  19. Assure that attendance records are kept accurately and that all registration and meet fee income has been collected by the Team Registrar
  20. Recruitment and scheduling of swim meets as agreed upon annually with the ED
  21. Continue to develop coaching and leadership skills by attending conferences, workshops, reading, and webinars
  22. Determine product, organize orders, and distribute team apparel
  23. Negotiate and maximize the TYR sponsorship to assure we get everything outlined

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Aquatics Coordinator will assist the Executive Director with the overall planning, development, management and supervision of all aquatic programs of St Thomas Swimming Association (“STSA”). This position is part-time, with hourly compensation, and requires approximately 20-25 hours of work per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists the Executive Director in the oversight of daily pool operations.
  • Assists the Executive Director in the hiring, training, and supervision of all necessary personnel to deliver each program component.

Whitman Swimming has been a rising power within the northwest for the last decade. The 2024 season concluded with the women’s team bringing home their sixth conference title in seven years and the men’s team finishing second. In recent years, one of our swimmers was a Division III NCAA national champion in multiple events and was even awarded NCAA Swimmer of the Meet in 2023. POSITION PURPOSE

Assist the Head Coach with all aspects of the Men’s and Women’s Swimming Program. This position is 0.93 FTE that works 1934 annual hours.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position reports directly to the Head Swimming Coach. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Training & Competition: Assist the Head Coach in the preparation of practices, conduct safe and strategic individual and team training sessions, and assist in all aspects of competition.
  • Recruiting: Support the Head Coach in the development and incorporation of a comprehensive recruiting plan that demonstrates successful results for the recruitment, yield and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes. Effectively recruit for the program while working within the parameters of Whitman, NWC, and NCAA rules.
  • Budget: Make responsible purchases for the Program. Assist the Head Coach with budget management.
  • Camps & Clinics: Assist the Head Coach in all fundraising efforts, including running of occasional lessons, clinics, and camps.
  • Masters Swim Team: Serve as the Head Coach for the Whitman Masters Swim Team.
  • Hy Tek & Hosting Meets: Assist with meet preparation, including competitive strategies. Partner with the Head Coach and game management staff to manage home meets. Manage Meet and Team Manager databases, entries, and results.
  • Travel Logistics: Assist with the arrangement and supervision of transportation, lodging and meals for team travel.
  • Events & Outreach: Coordinate team, alumni and community outreach and events.
