Swim BC is initiating a search for a Technical Director. Responsible for the ongoing development, leadership and successes of Swim BC’s swimmer and coach development programs, this senior position will work closely with the Executive Director and staff to drive an aligned approach to the technical direction for Swim BC.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Technical Director will lead Swim BC technical operations through continuous program assessment and enhancement; development and application of performance measures and analytics; planning, innovation, and inspiration.  The successful candidate will have a passion for sport systems and swimmer development supported by a coaching and academic background.  A high aptitude for communications, leadership, teaching, and mentoring are important to the role.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Ongoing assessment, enhancement, refinement and leadership of the existing Swim BC technical strategy and related programming, including but not limited to:
    • Fulfillment of strategic and operational plan technical objectives.
    • Camp and competition planning and conduct.
  • Lead technical voice to the Swim BC Membership and external stakeholders.
  • CSI-Pacific / viaSport Enhanced Excellence Program lead.
  • BC Games / Canada Games direction
  • Management, review, and application of Swim BC athlete ID, tracking and reporting programs.
  • Analytics processing – working with performance rankings and results to generate organizational benchmark, annual report, and in-season performance metrics.
  • Technical report development, club, and coach technical communications
  • Technical operating committee(s) leadership
  • Technical liaison to Swimming Canada and Canadian swimming PSO’s.
  • Provincial competition strategy and provincial championship technical conduct
  • Coaching professional development and mentorship lead
  • Administration:
    • Program specific budget development,
    • grant application development,
    • reconciliation of project finances and personal expenses.
  • Other duties as may be requested by the Executive Director

Member services: ability to liaise and respond to multiple member inquiries and assist in policy, rule, and regulatory understanding.

Technology: easily able to source information and perform research using web-based navigation and other tools.

Sport: embraces Long Term Development principles; clearly understands the Canadian swimming landscape.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years coaching experience from Age Group through National level. International coaching experience considered an asset.
  • Preference extended to candidates with a post-secondary degree in Sport Science or related discipline.
  • NCCP Senior Coach certified, or higher (Level 4) – preference to those holding a NCCP Advanced Coaching Diploma;
  • Intermediate competency or above in MS Excel; competent use of MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated team and collaboration talents;
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
  • Completion of Commit2 Kids safe sport training.
