Jordan Crooks vs. Josh Liendo NCAA Championship Predictions

Tennessee swim star Jordan Crooks  made history breaking the 18 second barrier with his 17.9 50 free at the SEC Championships. Swims like that block out the sun, but the big-man sprint-show will be judged across three events at the 2023 Men’s NCAA DI Championships, 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly.  University of Florida Josh Liendo  will be formidable, and he could take the most wins.

Jordan Crooks & Josh Liendo NCAA PREDICTIONS

50 Free? Crooks wins in 17.8. Liendo touches second in 18.0.
100 Fly? Liendo wins in 43.2.  Crooks hits the wall second in 43.8.
100 Free? They both go 40-point.  Who wins?! I’m a Tennessee alum, so I’m going with Crooks!

Thank God for kids like Kaii Winkler on the way. My personal predictions only have 2, 1, and 1 Americans making the A-final in these 3 events. The rest of the world is putting on a show and we need to take our bathtubs back!

It can be hard to distinguish team favoritism from xenophobia in sports, but there’s a way to do it…

I love a ton of the non U.S. guys! Team USA is the team I cheer for at international meets so I take a special interest in who we have coming up through the pipeline for future relays. It’s part of sports to root for and hope the guys on your team to do well. My post was a fan pulling for their favorite team; no hate for anyone.

Tennessee tyically struggles to replicate their SEC times at NCAAs.
Crooks wasn’t consistent in the same session from leading off the relay to his individual event at SECs.
Crooks went up at SCM Worlds.
I’ll need to see it to believe he’ll win at NCAAs.

Cal almost always swims their best at NCAAs. Bjorn did wasn’t consistent either last year at NCAAs with his 50s, but I bet Bjorn takes it.

If you follow this logic then Liendo was slower at finals in 2 of his 3 individual events at the SEC Championships therefore history has to repeat itself at NCAAs.

Jordan Crooks was faster at finals in 2 of his 3 individual events at the SEC Championships.

I never referenced Liendo because he’s a freshman so there isn’t much data from how he’ll perform at NCAAs. UF is usually a little better at NCAAs but not like Cal typically is.

Crooks swims for a team that usually adds toke at NCAAs. Crooks has struggled at both SECs and SCW with his 50 frees to stay consistent. Based upon that, it worries me that he won’t be able to replicate 17.9 again at NCAAs.
