Jordan Sloan Sets Irish Record in 200 Freestyle

2016 SHORT COURSE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Irish swimmer Jordan Sloan set a new Irish record this morning in the 200 freestyle on the second day of the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships in Windsor.  Sloan touched the wall first in his heat in this morning’s preliminaries, stopping the clock in 1:45.16.

Immediately after Sloan touched, Swim Ireland tweeted out:

Sloan lopped over a second off the previous record, which was a 1:46.34, done by Ryan Harrison in 2009.  Harrison still holds the long course record of 1:47.94, also from 2009.  According to the Swim Ireland website, Sloan’s personal best in long course is 1:50.01.

Yesterday, Sloan competed in the prelims of the 400 free.  His time of 3:46.99 was just off the Irish record of 3:46.83, held by Steven Manley from way back in 2004.  Sloan is also scheduled to compete in the 100 free later on this week.
