Singapore’s Joseph Schooling is now 2-for-2 in Asian Records at the World Championships, first breaking his own record in the 50 fly heats and re-lowering it in the semi-finals.

Schooling initially went 23.05 in the prelims to break his previous record of 23.25, set at the 2015 Championships where he placed 7th. Swimming in the second semi-final, he touched 3rd in 22.93 to take the record down another twelve one-hundredths. The record is of course also a Singaporean National Record.

He heads into the final seeded 5th, with Caeleb Dressel, the man who defeated Schooling in the 100 fly at the NCAA Championships, heading in 1st after setting an American Record in 22.76.

Schooling’s speed shown thus far is a good sign heading to the 100 fly, where he’ll be the overwhelming favorite after winning Olympic gold last summer by three quarters of a second. He has also dropped the 200 fly from his program, opting to focus on the 100 free during the middle of the competition.
