The 2024 NBAC Mid-Summer Classic, which has been a historic host to fast swimming, saw another year of National Age Group Records kick off on Friday.

12-year-old NBAC swimmer Jude Burkhart set a new National Age Group Record in the boys’ 800 meter freestyle. His 8:48.44 broke the 2011 record set by Matthew Hirschberger from the Clearwater Aquatic Team in Florida. Hirschberger’s time was 8:48.59.

Burkhart had only three previous 800 meter frees on his register. He swam 10:17.12 in 2022 when he was 10; 9:26.97 in 2023 when he was 11; and 8:58.72 at the end of May when he was 12.
