Stanford senior Julia Smit is winding down her career at Stanford with a bang, as she was named the National Swimmet of the Week by collegeswimming.com this past week thanks to her performance on the Cardinal’s trip to Southern California.
Smit won 5 individual events this past weekend against no. 9 USC and UCLA: the 100 and 200 freestyles and 200 breaststroke against the Trojans; and 200 backstroke and 200 IM against UCLA.
Smit has the nation’s top time in both I.M. distances (1:55.45 and 4:03.31 respectively), and the second best time in the 50 free (22.35) and 200 backstroke (1:52.83). In recent weeks, the Cardinal have come through a brutal schedule unscathed, including no. 3 Arizona and no.9 USC. Stanford still has its huge annual dual with chief-rival, no. 4 California, on February 13th.
This is Smit’s second national award of the season, and she previously won in November after an impressive performance at the Toshiba cup.
