June’s Swim Meet of Champions Conditionally Rescheduled For August 13-16

The 2020 Swim Meet of Champions has been provisionally rescheduled for August 13-16 at the Marguerite Aquatic Complex in Mission Viejo, Calif., pending permission from the State and the Health Department.

The annual four-day competition that honors the late Fran Crippen was originally slated to rune June 4-7 before the COVID-19 pandemic caused the mass cancellation of meets around the globe. This is the first post-quarantine meet that has been announced.

The meet will be hosted by the Mission Viejo Nadadores as usual and will be limited to the first 600 athletes from California, along with the first 200 from out of district, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The time standards will remain the same as last year, which can be found here. The entry deadline is August 5. You can find the meet entry form here.

The meet typically attracts a lot of big names from all over the U.S. along with some healthy international competition.

Among the entrants in 2019 were American stars Caeleb DresselAllison SchmittAnnie LazorTom Shields and Jacob Pebley, while there was also a strong contingent from China that included Xu JiayuYe Shiwen and Yan Zibei.

The regular June date serves as a great final tune-up before the big meets of the summer. In this case, the meet presents an opportunity to get back into racing after an extended layoff due to the pandemic, assuming it goes on as planned.

Whether or not the meet will be possible to run by the scheduled date remains to be seen. We laid out the three-phase procedure presented by US President Donald Trump that gradually eases the social distancing rules in the country, and how that may affect swimming this summer. USA Swimming won’t sanction any meets until at least May 31.

California surpassed 30,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, with over 1,100 deaths. State residents have been ordered to stay home “except as needed to maintain continuity of operation of the federal critical infrastructure sectors” since March 20.

Incorrect dates and Duration. Original dates were June 4-7 that is what is on the original meet form which is 4 days, not 3. Heading on Facebook page incorrect it says rescheduled for August 8-11 which is Saturday through Tuesday. The rescheduled date is August 13-16 Thursday through Sunday 4 days. This is unless I am mistaken based on what has been currently posted on the LSC website.

Looking forward to a great meet.
