Junior National Finalist Adam Zimmer Gives Verbal to Duke

Adam Zimmer from Missoula, Montana, has announced his verbal commitment to swim for the Duke Blue Devils as part of the Class of 2021.

Zimmer swims for Missoula Big Sky High School, and has Montana high school state records in the 100 breast (56.05) and 200 IM (1:52.55). He is an All-American and five-time state champion (3x in the 100 breast, 2x in the 200 IM). He also swims for Missoula Aquatic Club, and is a junior national finalist in the 100 breast.

Zimmer’s best times are:

Event  Time (SCY) Time (LCM)
100 Breast  55.79  1:05.22
200 Breast  2:01.31  2:24.13
200 IM  1:51.08  2:12.23
400 IM  4:02.32  4:50.54
100 Back  52.22  1:00.39
200 Back  1:51.73  2:14.45

Duke will welcome Zimmer’s breaststroke abilities when he arrives in Durham in 2017, as the Blue Devils will have graduated ACC breaststroke finalists Peter Kropp and Dylan Payne. Kropp currently holds the ACC record in the 100 breast (52.02).

Even with the departure of Kropp and Payne, Zimmer will have two years to train with current sophomore Judd Howard (53.85 in the 100 breast), and three years to train with current freshman Noah Stevens (54.95 in the 100 breast).

With still a year left to train with his year-round club team, Zimmer’s current best times would have ranked him 5th on the team in the 200 breast and 400 IM on Duke’s list of top times from the 2015-2016 season.
