Jack Blake will be moving across to the east side of the country next fall, as the Scottsdale Aquatic Club swimmer has just given his verbal commitment to join the Alabama Crimson Tide. Blake will make the move to Tuscaloosa after he graduates from Brophy College Preparatory High School at the end of this school year.
“Alabama’s sprint program (Bama Speed) is an amazing place to be right now. I especially couldn’t turn down the opportunity to work with sprint coach Jonty Skinner.”
Blake is coming off a very strong 2015-16, which saw him win a state title in the 100 free and a silver medal in the 50 free at the 2016 Arizona Division 1 High School State Championships. He was also a finalist at the 2015 Speedo Winter Junior Nationals (West), placing 5th in the 50 free. During the long course season, Blake went on to compete in the 50 free at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials.
On top of his impressive individual swims, Blake has also been known to throw down some clutch relay splits for his team. His top free relay splits include a 19.55 in the 50 free, 44.02 in the 100 free, and 1:38.50 in the 200 free. He’s also taken over breaststroke duty on the medley relays, popping splits as fast as 24.85 in the 50 breast and 55.92 in the 100 breast.
Blake’s Top Times:
- 50 free- 20.09
- 100 free- 45.07
- 200 free- 1:39.15
- 100 breast- 57.92
- 100 fly- 51.65
When he arrives at Bama next season, Blake should have an immediate impact for the Crimson Tide at the SEC Championships, as his time in the 50 free is already fast enough to have scored at 2016 SECs. With his past relay performances, indications are that we could see him develop into a key relay swimmer in the future as well.
