Junior Nats Swimmer Mikayla Herich Commits To Ohio University

Mikayla Herich of the Northern Kentucky Clippers has verbally committed to the Ohio University swimming program for the 2016-2017 season.

This summer, Herich competed in the 2015 Speedo Junior National Championships in both breaststroke and both IM events. Her highest placement was 40th in the 200 IM in an LCM time of 2:21.92. Her best SCY times are listed below:

  • 200 FR: 1:51.31
  • 500 FR: 4:57.65
  • 1650 FR: 17.13.79
  • 100 BR: 1:03.38
  • 200 BR: 2:19.38
  • 100 FL: 56.93
  • 200 FL: 2:04.37
  • 200 IM: 2:03.65
  • 400 IM: 4:21.49

Herich is a versatile swimmer who will prove useful to the Ohio team under the leadership of coach and 2004 Olympian Rachel Komisarz-Baugh. Last season, the Bobcats finished sixth of eight teams at Mid-American Conference Championships. Herich already is fast enough to have won herself a spot on last year’s 800 freestyle relay, where the Bobcats’ splits ranged from 1:48.52 to 1:52.32. As far as individual events, Herich would have taken fifth in the 400 IM, seventh in the 200 breast, and seventh in the 200 IM, scoring major points for the team.

“I trust in what Coach Rachel is doing with the program,” she said. “I believe that great things are going to be happening there, and I wanted to be a part of it. I will also be getting the best of both worlds with great academics.”
