Day 2 finals kicked off with the 200 free relays, as Fanwood-Scotch Plains took the women’s relay (1:46.04) and Upper Main Line snagged the men’s relay (1:35.87). Fanwood-Scotch’s consistency won them the race, with all four legs at 26’s and Sarah Davis providing a 26.05 2nd leg. The big splits came from NC State commit Ky-lee Perry of Wilton (25.46) and Tennessee commit Megan Sichterman of Countryside (25.53).
For the men, Grove City’s Austin Wilson (23.05) and Hugo Sykes (23.16) of Wilton threw down the strongest splits.
Countryside’s Sichterman swam a strong 100 fly, posting a lifetime best 1:00.23 to nearly break the minute barrier and win the women’s race by a considerable margin over 2nd place Caitlin Tycz (1:01.55) of Bath Area YMCA. Corey Gambardella of Soundview swam a 55.09 to win the men’s race.
North Shore’s Kaitlin Harty grabbed a big win in the women’s 200 back, swimming a 2:12.63, just tenths off of what she went at the Olympic Trials. Harty was just off of making it through to semifinals in Omaha, finishing 17th there. Wilton went 1-2 in the men’s 200 back, with Jake Kealy (2:04.81) and Sykes (2:07.02) finishing on top.
New Canaan’s Lizzy Colwell used the only sub-1:20 back half of the field to charge to the wall first in the women’s 200 breast, touching in 2:34.78 after coming in with a seed time of 2:38.48. For the men, Door County 16-year-old Maxwell McHugh blasted a 2:18.49 for the win, six-plus seconds ahead of his seed time coming in.
To cap off night 2, the Fanwood-Scotch women picked up another win in the 400 medley relay, boasting a field-best 57.01 anchor leg from Marlise Moesch. Upper Main Line also followed up their 200 free relay win with a victory in the men’s 400 medley, with Brendan Burns (55.45) and Billy Beard (51.32) posting the fastest fly and free splits of the field, respectively.
