Kalia Antoniou of Cyprus Verbally Commits to Alabama Crimson Tide

Kalia Antoniou has given her verbal commitment to the University of Alabama for the fall of 2018. She holds the Cypriot national record in the LCM 50 free (26.29).

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Alabama. I chose Bama because of the family atmosphere the coaches and swimmers have created and for the great coaching and academic opportunities the University of Alabama provides. “ROLLTIDE” #BAMA SPEED

Antoniou swims for Limassol Swimming Club where she specializes in sprint free, back and fly. She has made great strides over the past couple of years and was named Cyprus’ Female Swimmer of the Year for 2016. She is coached by Stavros Michaelides, a former Alabama All-American and three-time Olympian for Cyprus.

Antoniou has represented Cyprus internationally at a number of meets. She was a semifinalist in the 50 free this summer at the 2017 LEN European Junior Swimming Championships in Netanya, Israel. She represented Cyprus at the Balkan Junior Championships, winning gold in the 100 free and silver in the 50 free in 2016, and silver in the 50 free and bronze in the 50 back in 2017. She also won the 100 free and was third in the 50 free at the 2017 Greek Winter Championships.

She is an honor roll student at Pascal High School in Limassol. Coach Michaelides told SwimSwam, “Kalia will be a great addition to #Bama speed and she should flourish under the tutelage of legendary coaches Jonty Skinner and Dennis Pursley.”
