Karissa Kruszewski Joins Coaching Staff for CSUEB Swimming

HAYWARD, Calif. — Cal State East Bay head women’s swim coach Ben Loorz has announced the addition of Karissa Kruszewski to the team’s coaching staff for the 2015-16 season. Kruszewski brings two years of coaching experience to the Pioneers, and she was a standout Division I student-athlete, both in the pool and in the classroom.

“We are extremely excited for Karissa to join our Pioneer family,” said Loorz. “She has competed and coached at the highest levels of swimming, and she’s committed to improving the educational experience of our student-athletes. I think she will be a great fit with our team and a valuable asset in helping our program continue to reach new heights.”

Since the Fall of 2013, Kruszewski has served as head girls’ swim coach at Oregon High School in Oregon, Wisc. She has also been at the helm of the boys’ swim team at Stoughton High School in Stoughton, Wisc. She has had a great deal of success at Stoughton, leading the program to its best-ever finishes at the conference, sectional, and Wisconsin state championships. She also served as a summer camp counselor at the University of Texas and University of Michigan Swim Camps.

Prior to beginning her coaching career, Kruszewski spent four impressive years as a collegiate swimmer. She started at UC Irvine, where she was the only freshman on the team to capture a scholar-athlete award.

After the UC Irvine swim program was discontinued in 2009, Kruszewski transferred to the University of Wisconsin. She swam for the Badgers for three seasons and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three straight years. She also placed 16th in the 200 meter butterfly at the 2012 Big Ten Championships.

Kruszewski graduated from Wisconsin in 2013 with a B.S. in sociology. In the past several years, she has participated in numerous national swim events and competed for the Irvine Aquazot Club Team, breaking multiple Southern California records.
