Men’s 50 Yard Freestyle – Finals
NCAA DII Record: 08 – Karol Ostrowski, Drury (2020)- Meet Record: 18 – Serghei Golban, Lindenwood (2016)
Drury’s Karol Ostrowski lowered his own NCAA Division II Record, and his newly-minted NCAA Division II Meet record, in the 50 free leading off the Drury 200 free relay on Thursday night.
First, in the final of the 50 free earlier in the day, Ostrowski came within .04 of his best time coming into the meet (19.08), established earlier this season, to take down the meet record with his winning 19.12. Ostrowski held a slight lead over the first 25 and flipped first at 9.2, but it was his underwater that put him well ahead of the field. He powered home in 9.89 and for the fastest second half. His teammate Alex Bowen was second in 19.40.
Next, on the leadoff leg of the Drury 200 free relay, Ostrowski became the first Division II swimmer to break the 19-second barrier when he hit the wall with 18.92. This time he was out in 9.09 and home with 9.83.
50 Free final 3/18/2021 | 200 Free Relay leadoff 3/18/2021 | |
1st 25 | 9.23 | 9.09 |
2nd 25 | 9.89 | 9.83 |
50 free | 19.12 | 18.92 |
DII Schools near Missouri are where it’s at. Drury, Lindenwood, UMSL (I refuse to call it UM-St. Louis) Rolla, McKendry and my own alma-mater from 20 years ago Truman State University.
The Drury media relations team needs to get a photo of him doing freestyle. Dude’s probably one of the best D2 athletes in the country and they can’t even come up with a photo of him doing his best event.
How Are You Gonna Keep ‘Em in D2 (Once They’ve Gone Under 19)?
Will he stay at Drury or transfer to a D1 school?
Also, congrats Mr. Ostrowski.
He’ll most likely stay, he chose that coach for a reason coming from Europe.
Ok no slight meant to Drury or their coach. If he ever changes his mind, I’m sure many D1 coaches would like to talk to him.
Pretty sure there’s some rule about D1 eligibility and age and class that comes into play here which is why he’s d2 in the first place
Would he be able to transfer to a D1 school? He’s 22, and I’m assuming he graduated high school around 18 or 19 so wouldn’t his eligibility clock have been running for D1?
Can someone confirm this?
Not sure when he graduated high school. Compulsory education in Poland ends at 18, but I think there’s now a 13th year you can do (their system has changed a lot in the last few decades).
I could ask to confirm, but I don’t know how kindly they’re going to take to a question about his eligibility to transfer to a Division I school…

🇵🇱 🔥 Congrats Karol !:)
