Kassidy Henson Will Help Keep San Diego St On Top

Kassidy Henson will join the SDSU sprint tradition.

San Diego State is the defending Mountain West champions, and they’re already reloading for future title runs with the commitment of Davis Arden Racing Team’s (DART) Kassidy Henson. Henson specializes in both middle-distance freestyle and backstroke, and can come in right away and score for the Aztecs at the conference level. Her best event is 200 free, an event that SDSU placed four swimmers in the top ten of Mountain West last year. All of those swimmers, however, will be finished with their eligibility by the time Henson begins her college career. Henson’s best times:

  • 200 Free: 1:49.88
  • 100 Free: 51.62
  • 500 Free: 4:56.46
  • 100 Backstroke: 57.56
  • 200 Backstroke: 2:03.95

Henson’s coach at DART, Brian Nabeta, initially tweeted out the commitment, which was shortly thereafter confirmed by Henson’s profile, which now lists SDSU ’20 under her description. She also competes for powerhouse Granite Bay High School, swimming on two winning relays at the CIF-San Joaquin Section Championships where her team won the overall title. She was honored as a NISCA High School All-American for both her relay efforts. Henson also competed this past summer in the Oregon edition of the Futures Championship, swimming to 16th place in the 200 free and 24th in the 100 freestyle.

Aside from swimming, Henson has also been known to turn a tune- she performed the National Anthem before finals of a local meet two years ago. Perhaps soon she’ll be adding the melody of “Fight On” or “Hail Montezuma” to her repertoire.
