Kathleen Dawson Breaks Two Scottish National Records

Kathleen Dawson of Scotland broke two national records on the road while competing at the Ontario Junior International in Toronto, Ont.

The backstroke standout first broke the 50m backstroke record in prelims with a 26.90. With that time, she led the way heading into finals.

During finals on night one she continued her winning ways with an absolutely dominating performance. Dawson was the only swimmer of the night to dip under 27-seconds with a stellar 26.76 time, once again breaking the Scottish national record.

She won the final by a decent amount as Swim Ontario’s Emma Ball was second in 27.00 followed by Newmarket Stingray’s Danielle Hanus in 27.22.

The following day Dawson set up a very solid battle in the 100m backstroke during prelims, taking the second seed overall in 58.45. The only swimmer faster than her was 50m backstroke bronze medallist Hanus who swam a 58.00 Canadian national age group record.

In finals the two were very competitive, and Dawson managed to break the Scottish national record with a swift 58.11 swim. That time was good enough for a silver medal performance behind Hanus who swam to a new Canadian national age group record time of 57.63.

Dawson will be swimming the 200m backstroke on day three.
